2008-9 Season

Nipples deflated by a solid ‘Chels performance

It took a while to pierce the Nipples defences today but we did so with two fine goals and continued our unbeaten run of – er – one game.  Tom B was universally acclaimed as MoM, with a strong mention in despatches for MK Power in central midfield.

It was a sunny, almost Spring morning as we kicked off. EP was on the touchline, his hammy knackered, watching a bare 11 ‘Chels. It was a fairly scrappy affair to begin with, the ball bobbling about and the ‘Chels unable to get a foot on it.

Against the run of play, and about 30 minutes in, Alex broke down the inside left channel and put a ball across for Tom B, storming down the middle, who lashed the ball first time perfectly into the back of the net.

Despite the goal, honours remained fairly even. EP didn’t know what to do with himself at the break. With a squad of 11, he could have taken me off and brought me on to replace me – or he might have produced a tactical masterstroke, taking Stevie B off and bringing Stevie B on. Such is the mind-numbing anguish a manager with a depleted squad must face.

The Nipples started the second half well and had us on the back foot for quite a bit. El Tel pulled off one fantastic tackle as they raced through, a few feet from scoring, to prevent an equaliser. We also defended several corners, any one of which might have changed the course of the game.

Fortunately for us and 20 minutes into the half, Alex, came racing down the right flank and put the perfect chip – or was it a shot? – across the goal, which Euan managed to chopped in with his studs. Two-nil.

The Nipples were deflated. The ‘Chels were now dominating midfield and this had some unforeseen consequences. El Tel came racing out of nowhere down the left flank, beat one defender, two…heading for the corner flag, in round the back…all he had to do was square the ball.

At this point, dear reader, El Tel saw his name in lights flashing over the Nipples Goal, somewhere an air-raid siren went off, the ground opened up beneath him and El Tel shot from an impossible angle. Well, you can guess the rest.

Only six games left now before the tour, boyz. Where did this season go?

  1. dotless, not sure how a 4-1 defeat to BA followed by this 2-0 victory over NPL gives us “an unbeaten run of two games”!

Maybe you’re the sort of nincompoop who’d be taken in by my 4-4-3 tactic!

  2. Dunno what you’re taking EP but the match report quite clearly states an unbeaten run of one games.
