2005-6 Season

British Airways 3 Kenchels FC 1

‘Chels losing streak continued with this defeat against an on-form British Airways side. Looking on the bright side, at least we didn’t lose 3-2 again. Small comfort, I know, but now I’m a black  belt in Tai chi, I need to balance the yin of despair against the yang of blind optimism.

On the yang side, Craig was fantastic in goal and foiled BA on numerous occasions, especially during the second half when we were under siege for some time. On the yin side, a reckless and enraged Stevie B gave away a needless penalty just after they’d gone one-up, thereby ensuring we were two-nil down at half-time and with our work cut out in the second.

It might have been so very different. If they hadn’t scored first…if Alex’s one-on-one with the keeper had ended with him passing square to Tom B for a tap-in instead of going for glory with his banjo…if only Stevie B hadn’t seen the red mist.

So second half kicks off and ‘Chels have it all to do – and we didn’t do too badly. Alex, EP, Euan and John all had decent chances. But BA were deadly coming forward and at one point were pinging crosses in with gay abandon. Any one of them could have led to a goal. They hit both posts and the crossbar too, I recall. Craig was forced to put in a series of brave saves – and an excellent all round performance that earned him MOTM.

It was Alex who got our solitary goal – can’t remember how so maybe someone can enlighten me. Stevie B and Tom B both went off in the second half injured – forcing me to come back on, along with EP (I think).

Anyway that’s it. Sorry about the brief nature of this report but I have been yinning and yanging all week and haven’t had a chance to put pen to paper.
