2005-6 Season

Kenchels FC 2 Meadhurst Vets 3

The poor old ‘Chels started brightly, went two-up after 20 minutes but imploded and ended up losing three goals to two in this game against one of the bogey sides we have yet to beat. As Meadhurst’s Dicky, Dogger and Donny (I kid you not!) might have put it, what a fahkin’ liberty.

It had all begun so sweetly. Ten minutes in, Stevie B and Alex carved through their left hand side with a magnificent one-two. Alex’s shot was parried by the keeper but John Murphy slotted the rebound. Not long after, a series of flick-on headers from Steve to Gav to John Murphy ended with Alex drilling a second into the top corner. Two-nil.

Meadhurst ‘s response was a lot of fahkin’ shouting at each other and they started to work their way down our flanks. Their forays got more and more dangerous and eventually they got into a shooting position outside our box. We failed to close the guy down and he blasted a superb shot past Dave G, who stood no fahkin’ chance.

And so from bad to worse. Minutes before half-time, they win a corner. We head it out but the ball comes bouncing back into our area, there’s a melee with the ball bibbly-bobbling about and it bobbles over the line. Now its fahkin’ two-all.

At half-time, and seeing disaster looming, I pulled myself off to keep my player stats in the black. Long-lost Kenchels idol Andy Jacob came on for me in the right back slot and Tommy T reffed to allow Newbwan on. Luis came on for John Murphy.

The second half also started well and we had a series of chances in the first ten to 15 minutes. Luis almost tucked away a rebound from an Alex shot – or might have been Euan’s – and Stevie B put some excellent corners across their goal. But we couldn’t find the net and as the game wore on, they got fahkin’ stronger and were spending more and more time in our half.

About 20 minutes in, they put a corner in. Dave G got a finger to it but they headed home. So from two-nil up to three-two down. What a fahkin’ disgrace.

PS: Meadhurst is really fahkin’ good at shouting. They make Stevie B sound like The Quiet Man.

The fahkin’ lineup: Dave G, Tel, Wayne, Den, Tom T, Euan, Stevie B, Gav, Tom B, John M, Alex . Second half: Chris on for Tom T, Andy Jacob for Den, Luis for John Murphy.
