Kenchels should have had this game in the bag at half-time. The fact that we didn’t was down to a bit of bad luck and the fact that – if truth be told – Holyport are a pretty decent side who don’t give up easily.
It was always going to be a tight game. We had a few chances early on as Andy and Alex got around the back of them – thanks mostly Roger pinging in some superb long balls for them to run on to. Sadly, it was also Roger who, about 20 minutes in, managed to intercept a Holyport shot into our box catching it with his toe and pinging in quite nicely past goalkeeper-in-residence Tom Taw.
So we were one down and that’s the way the first half finished. When we ran out for the second, we still had everything to play for and it worked out for us when Andy popped one it at the keeper, who sort of fumbled it over the line. Things looked even better when Alex hit a phenomenal strike from a tight angle to put us 2-1 up.
Holyport never faltered though. They kept on coming at us and after a string of corners about 15 minutes from the end, they finally put a decent header past Mr Taw to level things.
‘Chels lineup: Tom T, Roger, Wayne, Terry, Den (subbed by Paul G after 20 mins cos he was crap) , Steve B, Chris Newbod, Robin, Graham (Roger’s bruv), Andy and Alex. Subs: Gavin for Chris, Euan for Robin.
