Teddington Vets 3 Kenchels FC 3
I was on fire last time I turned out for the ‘Chels. And even more so this time…
With a temperature of 102, I crawled from my sickbed and…no, lads, I’ll stop right there. I have taken a little bit of stick about the self-indulgent, peut-etre self-obsessed nature of my match reports, especially after my recent goal frenzy.
Therefore I will say nothing of the commitment and dedication required for somone to turn out on a freezing, blustery January day when they (or he) is stricken with flu (Are you listening Daveed?).
Nor will I speak of the further suffering caused by a feckless groundsman who failed to show up, leaving us all to get changed in the open. Brrrrrrrr.
And so to the game…
Deputy Head Coach Newman to his credit had just about pulled a bare XI together, given various Christmas and New Year festivities. Wayne was back but Tom B was still up the rainforest somwhere, Robin and Gav were in Auld Oireland. Plus we were missing both Alex and Jake. Once again Andy, Euean, and Kings Head Dave got the call-up.
The goals came quickly. First, Tom Taw got his bonce to a Steve B corner only for one of their defender to punch it out of the goal as it was going in. John Murphy put the resulting penalty away nicely.
The second came direct from a Stevie free kick just outside their box. Sooperb. The third came from Andy.
Anyway three-up at half-time and we were cruising…not.
Once again, our old pal, the Kenchels Glass Jaw, came visiting in the second half. Within ten minutes, they had one back, within 20 they had two. With 15 to go, they got the third.
Yes we were well and truly on the rack and if it hadn’t been for some acrobatics from Craig – and three or four well-timed clearances from him – they could have beaten us. It’s also true that the first half scoreline flattered us quite a bit – they had always looked strong coming forward.
So when all is said and done, a draw was a fair result. A-a-a-a-a-tish-oooooooooooooo!
