2004-5 Season

Kenchels FC 4 Teddington Vets 3

We got the win but this one was too close to call right to the end. Talk about riding our luck! Of course, it didn’t start that way. We were 3-1 up at halftime and looked set for a relatively easy win.

Credit where it’s due. Teddington came out at half-time and were determined to get something from the game. I don’t remember any of the details whatsoever – Denzheimer Syndrome strikes again – but I do know we were let off the hook a few times by the appalling nature of their shots on goal.

Craig reffed the first half then slipped in between the sticks for the second, allowing Tom Taw to strut his arbitrarial stuff. Some fine comedy moments ensured – particularly the one where Wayne got his shirt almost pulled off him inside our penalty area. ‘Play On’ said the ref, which we did. Just as soon as we’d stopped laughing.

I’d love to tell you more. We did well considering we had no Robin or Gavin and half the team seemed to be coughing or spluttering, even before they got on the pitch.

Anyway, that’s as much as I recall. Our first home game, our first home win.
