2004-5 Season

Old Salesians 1 Kenchels FC 1

Dotden’s old school nearly taught us a lesson in this game. Despite chance after chance in the first half, and quite a few in the second, we were unable to find the winner.

They were a good, vets’ side who moved the ball around nicely, were good in the air and ran well from midfield. They scored early on after a nice through ball got around the back of our defence.

Jake, Alex and Robin linked up well though and were threading the ball through them nicely, creating chance after chance. We just couldn’t bury it. At the other end, Dave kept us in it with some skillful keeping as they counter-attacked.

We ended the first half one down but looked the better side. As the second half began, we maintained the dominance. Jake got round the back and crossed for Alex, who fired at the keeper – only for Roger to get the rebound. At last we were even.

At this point we faltered. Suddenly our midfield didn’t seem able to keep up. We found ourselves playing a long ball game and there were fewer chances.

That’s how it finished. A nice fixture, nice opposition but a disappointing result. More match pictures are available here.

First half: Dve G, Roger, Wayne, Terry, Ben, GB, Tom B, Robin, Jake & Alex
Second half: Den for Ben, Tom Taw for Robin
