Kenchels took their first point of the new season – point not pint – in a hard-fought draw against Purford that produced some excellent performances, most notably from Tom Bradbury.
Tom was all over the place – in the nicest possible way – winning balls left, right and center. His goal was a terrific strike from the edge of the box, driven home after weaving his way past two defenders. No question he was a very clear man of the match.
Sadly, a free kick on the edge of our own box gave Purford the chance to equalise. We’d had a lot of chances on goal and could have won it but it wasn’t to be.
Still, at least we didn’t lose 5-1, as we did in our opening game of the season against Marble Hill at the start of September.
A scorching hot day didn’t stop us putting in a solid first half performance, ending 1-1 with a stonking goal from John Murphy. But in the second half our lack of fitness – and some disastrous defensive errors – saw us struggling. Let’s hope for better next time out…
